Shanghai Railway Station — known to locals as the “new” main station (新客站) — sits just north of the city centre. Most pure high-speed trains now use Hongqiao, but Shanghai Station still handles many intercity services and the overnight sleeper trains to far-flung cities. Don't confuse it with Shanghai Hongqiao: check which station your ticket uses.
