Kunming South Railway Station

Kunming South (Kunmingnan) is the city's high-speed gateway, opened in 2016 in the Chenggong district about 30 km southeast of the old centre. It is the southwestern terminus of the Shanghai–Kunming line and also serves the Nanning–Kunming corridor, with fast trains to Guiyang, Changsha, Guangzhou and Shanghai. For the scenic D-trains to Dali and Lijiang you usually use the older Kunming Railway Station instead — check your ticket.

Major destinations: Guiyang, Changsha, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Nanning, Guilin.

Metro connections

• Line 1 — Southern terminus is at the station (昆明南火车站); runs north into the city centre.

Airport transfer

Kunming Changshui International (KMG): the airport is northeast of the city while the station is southeast, so allow time. Metro Line 6 toward the centre then transfers (Line 2/1) takes ~80 min; a taxi is ~40–50 min (¥80–100).

Boarding & gates

Clear security at the entrance, check the boards for your waiting hall and gate (检票口), and scan your passport or e-ticket ~15 minutes before departure. The station is large and a fair way out of town, so allow ~30 minutes inside plus generous travel time to reach Chenggong.
